Master gears are used for the composite checking of components (total composite error, tooth-to-tooth error, runout, functional tooth thickness). This is generally achieved by engaging the master and component gear in tight mesh on a machine that records the deviation of center distance during rotation of the gears. We offer a range of gears and artifacts (internal & external) including: Helical Gears, Spur Gears, Component Replica Gears, Rolling Master Gears, Lead Masters, FTT Masters, Setting Masters, Setting Discs, Plain Diameter Discs, and Lead & Involute Masters. We also offer Double Flank Roll Testers (DFRT) with Slone Gear’s in-house developed RollVU™ software, or dial indicators for an affordable, manual option.

We offer a wide range of internationally recognized standards and custom designs to meet any customer requirement. Some of the common standards include:

  • ISO (International)
  • AGMA (American)
  • DIN (German)
  • BS (British)
  • JIS (Japanese)

We typically offer master gears in 01 tool steel which has a hardness Rockwell (HRC) of 60-62; however, we can also supply them in other materials such as high-speed steel which is more durable, offering extended life. Other materials we offer are:

  • A2 (61-63 HRC)
  • ASP23 (64-65 HRC)
  • ASP30 (65-66 HRC)

For high-speed steel, we offer specialized coatings (i.e. TiN Coating) to extend the life of the master gear.

RING & PLUG GAGES

Splined Ring & Plug Gages are used to check tooth thickness & circular space width (respectively) on mating splined components.

We supply tapered, plain, straight and helical versions of all Ring & Plug Gages.

TAPERED MASTER PLUG GAGES
Involute, Parallel & Serration

Splined, Calibrated Tapered Master Plugs (TMP) are tapered tooth master plugs with fit and wear lines. Tapered Master Plug Gages are used to monitor the wear of Ring Gages during their useful life, eliminating the need to send Ring Gages out to an independent laboratory for calibration.

We also supply Straight or Helical splined Tapered Master Plug Gages.

VARIABLE SPLINE INDICATOR (RINGS & PLUGS)
Involute, Parallel & Serration

Ring & Plug Variable Spline Indicators are used to check effective & actual tooth thickness and effective & actual circular spacewidth (respectively) on mating splined components. These Spline indicators are typically supplied with digital indicators which display a readout of the tooth thickness or circular spacewidth.

Functional Go and NoGo Ring & Plug Gages are perfectly adequate for some manufacturers as they confirm if a component is within or outside the required tolerance band; however, for some manufacturers it is necessary to actually measure and record the tooth thickness or circular spacewidth.

VERSA INDICATING RING & PLUG GAGES
Involute & Serration

Ring & Plug Versa Spline Gages are mainly used to check dimension over pins on an external splined component or dimension under pins on an internal splined component (respectively). Ring/Plug Versa Gages can also be used to check the Major or Minor diameter on an external/internal splined component as well. These Versa gages are typically supplied with digital or dial indicators which display readout of the dimension over pins/dimension under pins, major diameter or minor diameter. Ring/Plug Versa Gages typically have two spring loaded balls locating on the feature they are checking.
